Possession of a stolen vehicle
Efrain Correas Vargas, 33, of the 15400 block of Sierra Morena in Morgan Hill, 5:46 p.m. Sunday, on the 14400 block of Murphy Avenue in San Martin for crossing a double yellow line and driving on the wrong side of the road. The 1992 blue Honda Accord Vargas was driving had been reported stolen by San Jose Police. Vargas also had a stolen credit card in his possession.
Under the influence of a controlled substance
Victor Jesus Betancourt, 18, of the 7300 block of Maple Street, 11:32 a.m. Sunday, near the intersection of U.S. 101 and Leavesley Road for straddling lanes. Deputies located a plastic bag containing marijuana inside the right sock of Betancourt, who displayed symptoms of being under the influence and was in possession of broken pieces of ceramic spark plugs.
Possession of methamphetamine
A 17-year-old whose name and address sheriff’s deputies withheld, 12:56 a.m. Friday, near the intersection of San Pedro Street and Butterfield Boulevard in Morgan Hill for possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Assault with a deadly weapon
Joel Madrid, 23, of the 7500 block of Alexander Street, 1:34 p.m. March 25, on the 300 block of Day Road. He assaulted a male victim with an aluminum baseball bat, causing a gash to the victim’s jaw bone.
Driving under the influence
James Aaron Hebert, 32, of Texas, 2:25 a.m. Saturday, near the intersection of San Martin Avenue and Murphy Road in San Martin.

Burglary
Two lawn mowers valued at $300 each were stolen from an aluminum storage shed at Discover Christian Church near the intersection of Colony and San Martin Avenue in San Martin, between 7 p.m. March 25 and 1:45 p.m. Saturday.
A drill press and a $160 lawn mower were stolen from a shed on the 12100 block of Llagas Avenue in San Martin, between 1:30 a.m. and 10:15 p.m. March 26.
Vehicle theft
A man stole a 1974 orange Chevrolet Nova, 12 p.m. Feb. 23, on the 12700 block of New Avenue in San Martin when he took the vehicle for a test drive and never returned. The thief gave his name as Zazueta Manuel Juan, 35, of Salinas.
Auto burglary
Five different vehicles parked on the 13300 block of Watsonville Road in Morgan Hill were broken into via the driver’s side windows, between 11 p.m. March 28 and 6:40 a.m. Saturday. A backpack, a service manual and $1,300 were stolen, among other miscellaneous items, from the vehicles.
A 2006 black Mercedes C230 parked near the intersection of Santa Teresa Boulevard and Whiskey Hill Lane was broken into through the driver’s side window, between 10:30 p.m. March 27 and 5:54 p.m. Friday. An iPod Nano valued at $200, iPod accessories, an adapter cable and a memory card were stolen. Deputies noted “numerous” other auto burglaries in the immediate area.
A 1996 beige Toyota Camry parked on the 10300 block of Santa Teresa Boulevard was broken into, between 3 p.m. Thursday and 6 a.m. Friday.
Attempted auto burglary
Someone tried to pry open the door of a white Hallmark trailer parked on the 1100 block of Day Road, between 7:30 p.m. March 19 and 7:30 p.m. March 26.
A white Chrysler Sebring parked near the intersection of Santa Teresa Boulevard and Day Road was broken into through the driver’s side rear window, between 12:30 a.m. and 7:40 a.m. Friday. A tan, leather Coach wallet containing $500 was taken.
A 2004 silver Jeep Cherokee parked on the 10600 block of Fourth Street was broken into through the driver’s side window, between 9 p.m. March 26 and 7 a.m. Thursday. A purse containing $160 was stolen. The damage totaled $200. Credit cards stolen from the vehicle were later used at a gas station.
Residential burglary
Several items valued at $1,610 were taken from a residence on the 2700 block of Ferguson Road, between 5 p.m. March 22 and 11 a.m. March 26.

Forgery
Checks were stolen from the 3400 block of Pacheco Pass Highway and a total of $1,357.77 was cashed at various locations, between 12 p.m. March 10 and 12 p.m. March 23.
Theft by credit card
Two unauthorized purchases totaling $283.53 were made in Morgan Hill to a Capital One credit card, between 12 p.m. March 7 and 12 p.m. March 11.
Identity theft
A victim’s social security number was used to open a business. The victim, of the 11300 block of Schofield, was alerted of unusual activity when the IRS audited his 2006 wages. The crime was reported at 2:30 p.m. March 25.
Vandalism
A power cable from a water pump near the intersection of Monterey Highway and Bailey Avenue in Morgan Hill was cut and wires connected to a circuit breaker were tampered with, between 3:30 p.m. Jan. 1 and 3:30 p.m. Thursday. The damage totaled $200.
Holes and dents were made on a metal flagpole valued at $6,000 at Atkinson Ranch on the 6200 block of Croy Road in Morgan Hill, between 3 p.m. March 26 and 9 a.m. Thursday.
Gang-type graffiti was spray painted on a greenhouse at Osako Nursery on the 10200 block of Dougherty in Morgan Hill, causing $100 worth of damage, between 5:30 p.m. March 25 and 8 a.m. March 26. Fifteen dollars in cash was taken from the offices.
Recovered stolen vehicle
A 1994 silver Acura Integra stolen out of Gilroy was recovered on the 2700 block of Ferguson Road, 3:51 p.m. March 25.
A 1990 grey Honda Accord stolen out of Morgan Hill was recovered near the intersection of Murphy and Middle avenues in Morgan Hill, 2:25 a.m. March 26.
Grand theft
A woman on the 1800 block of West Edmundson Avenue in Morgan Hill reported a pair of diamond stud earrings lost or stolen, Nov. 2006.
