Police responded to several incidents of car theft this week, as well as random acts of violence at various Gilroy businesses, both at the expected locals – such as a bar in the early hours of the morning – and the unexpected – a pizza parlor around lunchtime. Here are a few standout events:
Woman allegedly punches bouncer in the face
Martha Leyva, 25-year-old Gilroy resident, was involved at a fight inside El Rio Nilo at 1:32 a.m. on Aug. 19 when was escorted out by bar security and allegedly punched the security guard in the face on her way out. She was arrested for assault and released with a ticket that night.
Copper piping stolen
At 10:20 a.m. on Aug. 21, a suspect cut 60 feet of copper piping from a wall at Gurries Associates on First Street, an estimated $450 worth of copper. Police have no known suspects for the theft.
Man allegedly goes bezerk at a pizza parlor
Victor Martinez, 35-year-old Gilroy resident, arrested for assault after he entered Mountain Mike’s Pizza on First Street at 11:35 a.m. on Aug. 22 and randomly punched a 32-year-old woman in the face not known to him. He began yelling and swung at another customer with his fist but missed. A Mountain Mike’s employee called police. Martinez had fled prior to police arrival, but was located in the 800 block of Welburn Avenue. He was arrested for battery and taken to Santa Clara County Jail without incident.  The female victim had minor injuries but did not request medical assistance.
Bike chain attack
At 7:57 p.m. on Aug. 22, a suspect attacked a victim at Miller Park, beating him with a bicycle chain. The victim had minor, non-life threatening injuries and did not request medical assistance. The suspect was gone prior to police arrival. Gallacinao said the assault does not appear to be gang related.
Car thief arrested
At 1:25 a.m. on Aug. 24, police saw a man and a woman walking away from a stolen 1995 green Ford Explorer on Hanna Street. The suspects attempted to flee at police arrival, but the man, Martin Alarcon, 34 of Gilroy, was soon caught. The female was not found.  Three quarters of a gram of methamphetamine and other stolen items including two Apple iPods were found in the stolen car. Alarcon was arrested and taken to Santa Clara County jail for possession of stolen property, a parole violation, and possession of narcotics.  
DUI hit-and-run
Angel Salinas-Gonzalez, 33 of Gilroy, was arrested for DUI hit-and-run and for driving unlicensed at 8:36 p.m. on Aug. 26 after he hit a victim’s car near Leavesley and Murray and drove away. The victim called the police and followed the suspect with their car. Police contacted him when he pulled into an apartment complex on Broadway Street. Salinas Gonzalez was taken to Santa Clara County Jail.
