This week, Gilroy Police worked extra shifts at the Garlic Festival as well as on the streets patrolling. They responded to incidents of methamphetamine sales,  drunk driving and theft, as well as several incidents of public intoxication at the Garlic Festival. Here are a few of those incidents:
Methamphetamine for sale
Fernando Perez, 36 of Gilroy, was arrested at 6:04 p.m. on July 26 on the corner of Broadway Street and Carmel Street for the possession of six grams of methamphetamine for sale and for being under the influence of methamphetamine after police made contact with him when they noticed him walking down the street appearing disoriented, according to Police Sgt. Chad Gallacinao. He was taken to Santa Clara County Jail.
Wanted man allegedly resists arrest
Roberto Ramirez, 20 of Gilroy, was arrested on Carmel and Fifth Streets for an outstanding warrant and for resisting arrest after he allegedly fled on foot from police at 12:35 a.m. on July 27. Police caught Ramirez after he fled down Fifth Street and hid in someone’s backyard, Gallacinao said. He was taken to Santa Clara County Jail.
Perfume theft
A loss prevention officer attempted to apprehend a suspect after he allegedly stole $764 worth of fragrance from Saks Fifth Avenue at the Gilroy Premium Outlets at 3:15 p.m. on July 27. A male and female helped the suspect escape by holding the arms of the loss prevention officer. The suspect is outstanding.  
Drunk driving arrest
Arturo Ramirez, 23 of Hollister, was arrested on Monterey Street for driving under the influence when police pulled his gray 2003 Chevy truck over at 12:33 a.m. on July 29 when they allegedly saw him make an illegal left-hand turn.
Meanwhile, at the Garlic Festival, arrests were down from recent years, acording to Gallacinao. Here is a tally of this year’s festival arrests:
Public intoxication: 5
Trespassing: 4
Obstructing or delaying an officer: 2
Theft: 1
California Alcoholic Beverage Control arrest: 1
Total arrests: 13
