Juveniles punch man in face, steal phone
On April 9 at 9:19 p.m., a man was approached by three Hispanic male juveniles around 16 or 17 years old while walking on First Street near Hanna Street with his cell phone in his hand, according to Gilroy Police Sgt. Jason Kadluboski.
The juveniles punched the man in the face and knocked his phone out of his hand. The man complained of pain in his face but did not seek medical treatment. His phone was a black Korcia valued at $19.
Woman grabs cop’s baton, pepper spray
A patrol officer was driving through the 7700 block of Hanna Street on April 10 at 2:47 a.m. when they saw a man and a woman take off running at the sight of the police vehicle. After a short foot chase, the man jumped over a fence into a backyard and escaped, but the woman was caught, Kadluboski said.
As the officer grabbed the suspect, 42-year-old Stephanie Strangis, she grabbed his baton. Both fell to the ground. Strangis then tried to grab the pepper spray out of the officer’s holster. When other officers arrived, they secured her in handcuffs.
Once taken to Santa Clara County jail, police said she started fighting again. Kadluboski said it did not appear Strangis was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
No suspects in home burglary
On April 10 at 9 p.m., a residential burglary was reported on the 7200 block of Dowdy Street. The resident reported that his television, a Wii gaming system, laptop, cell phone and keys to the residence and a Dodge van were stolen.
The burglary was reported to occur between the hours of 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. that day while the resident was not home. The resident said the house was locked, but there was no evidence of forced entry.
Assault, robberies possibly related Â
A man was walking alone at 4:30 p.m. on Church Street near Eleventh Street on April 11 when a group of five teen males and one teen female approached him and blocked his path. The victim reported that one suspect punched him in the face. He fell to the ground and the suspects took his phone.
He complained of pain to the head but did not immediately seek medical attention.
This incident may or may not be connected to the similar robbery that occurred on April 9, where three juveniles reported assaulted a man and stole his cell phone on First Street, Kadluboski said.
No suspects have been identified.
