Worth its weight in fake gold
Two men defrauded a woman in front of Wal-Mart, 7150 Camino Arroyo, on March 30 after one of them sold her a fake gold bar, police said. An unknown man approached the woman at about 5 p.m. and showed her what appeared to be a gold bar. The man asked the woman to buy the bar from him so that he could get back to Mexico.
Another man who passed by said he would buy the item, police said. The man went inside Wal-Mart, returned with a stack of money and said jewelers at Wal-Mart said the bar was worth $20,000. Then the seller of the bar said he would sell the woman an additional bar of the same value for only $3,000. The woman went to the bank along with the man who supposedly bought one of the gold bars from the other and withdrew $3,000 from her account. She then dropped off that man at Wal-Mart and bought the item from the other man.
Later, she learned the bar was fake, police said.
Women throw dinnerware, injure two in argument at Denny’s
Police arrested two women at Denny’s early April 4 after they started throwing cups and plates at each other, hitting other people in the process. Margarita Chavez, 43, of San Jose and Yuliana Aguirre, 26, of Morgan Hill were both arrested on charges of vandalism of someone’s property and nonpayment of food at the restaurant, 8425 San Ysidro Ave. Chavez also was arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon. Both women got into a verbal argument around 2:50 a.m., according to police. During the argument, one of the women threw a coffee cup at the other and missed, striking another person on the face, police said. Both women then threw other cups and plates at each other, striking a second woman on her arm and breaking a $200 picture frame, police said.
Masked men strike bicyclist with car, steal backpack
Two masked men struck a bicyclist with a vehicle at Festa Aglio Drive and Hirasaki Avenue at 12:45 a.m. March 29 and then took the bicyclist’s backpack, which had fallen off of him, police said. Initially the vehicle pulled up beside the victim and the men verbally harassed the male bicyclist before passing by him, police said. Then, the vehicle returned and struck the bicyclist.
One of the suspects appeared to have a crowbar, although he did not hit the victim with it, according to police. One of the suspects told the other to grab the man’s backpack, which he did before getting back into the vehicle and driving away. The bicyclist only suffered minor injuries. There are no suspects or witnesses in the case, police said.
Man steals 35 pairs of pants, then legs it
An unknown man entered Kohl’s, 6765 Camino Arroyo, 11:15 a.m. March 30, and stole 35 pairs of Levi’s jeans, totaling about $1,260. The man fled the store through an emergency exit.
Elder abuse reported after hospital member spies burns, decomposing flesh
A staff member at Saint Louise Regional Hospital, 9400 No Name Uno Road, reported elder abuse at 4:40 p.m. March 30 after seeing a man who lives on Forest Street with second-degree burns on his legs and decomposing flesh on his buttocks, police said. The victim’s son is his caregiver.
Thief flies off with parrot
Someone reportedly stole an African gray parrot and its cage from a house on Leavesley Road, between 12 and 2 a.m. Sunday, police said.
Counterfeit check cashed at Franco’s Imports
Someone cashed a counterfeit money order at Franco’s Imports, 157 Old Gilroy St., about 1:54 p.m. March 16. Police estimate the total loss is about $970.
Racial attack at Miller Park
A Hispanic man told police at 3:33 p.m. March 31 that an unknown white man had uttered racial epithets and assaulted him in Miller Park at 3:55 p.m. the previous day, police said. The man said he had been sitting on a park bench when the suspect punched him in the face and kicked him. Although he had been talking with a friend earlier while he was sitting down, he told police that there were no witnesses left in the area at the time of the assault.
Laundry room burglars fail to make clean escape
Khurrum Choudry, 43, and Albert Andy Anderson, 29, were both arrested for conspiracy to commit a crime, first-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools and violating probation after they were allegedly seen breaking into the laundry room of 8587 Church St., 8:52 a.m. April 5, police said. They were stopped leaving the driveway of the apartment complex. The person who reported the incident to police identified both of them, and they were arrested and taken to county jail.
Burglars connect to steal $4,500 in routers.
Unknown suspects broke into an unlocked Penske truck on the 7700 block of Arroyo Circle sometime between 6 p.m. April 3 and 6 a.m. Monday, taking $4,500 worth of Netgear routers, police said. Police have no suspects in the case.
