Gilroy – Gilroy police are looking for two Hispanic males suspected of shooting a Gilroy man this weekend.
The victim, a white 22-year-old man, whose name is being withheld to protect his identity, was driving with passengers behind the suspects at 5:11 Saturday morning on the 8300 block of Church Street. He followed the suspects into a parking lot, where he was fired upon while sitting in his vehicle, striking him once in the arm and once in the leg.
The suspects fled the scene and the victim went to an apartment building a couple blocks north of where the shooting occurred, and called police. He was transported to San Jose Medical Center, where he was treated, police said.
Police are looking for two Hispanic males in their 20s. No description of their vehicle was available.
The Anti-Crime Team, which investigates gang-related incidents, is investigating the attempted homicide, although it is unknown whether it was gang-related.
“There are additional witnesses to the case that have been and are being interviewed, followed up on,” said Sgt. Kurt Svardal, public information officer for the Gilroy Police Department.
There were no words exchanged between the suspect and victim to suggest that it was gang-related and the relationship between the parties is unclear at this time, Svardal said.
“We don’t have any indication that they knew each other, but we don’t have any indication that they didn’t know each other,” Svardal said.
The investigating officer was in court Monday and Tuesday and expected to return to GPD today.
The shooting also does not appear to be road rage incident, either.
“I don’t want to say it’s a random act of violence, I don’t think that’s legitimate,” Svardal said, “I think (the investigating officers) need to talk to the victim a bit more.”
