Gilroy's Maddy Cox looks for a pass as San Benito's Denise Ortiz tries to block during their game Jan. 20.

SALINAS—Christopher’s Teresa Guerra and Gilroy’s Maddy Cox were instrumental to their teams’ successes this season—and the league took notice.
Both topped the Monterey Bay League Gabilan Division’s list by earning First Team All-League honors.
Guerra led her team to a 9-16 overall record, 6-6 in league play, which earned Christopher a berth in the Central Coast Section Division II playoffs. The team was eliminated by Pioneer following a 65-53 loss on Feb. 26 in San Jose.
Cougar Christa Arroyo was named Second Team All-League, as was Gilroy’s Sarah Weiby. Angel Harper of Christopher and Adina Valencia of Gilroy received All Defensive Team nods.
Christopher freshman Trinity Stark and Gilroy junior Nia Pollard both received honorable mentions. Melanie Tanaka and Andrea Gracia—who play for CHS and GHS, respectively—were named to the “Pursuing Victory with Honor” Sportsmanship Team.
