GILROY—The Christopher diving team proved it’s the best the in Pacific Division.
The Cougars walked away with two first place finishes and a second place finish in the Pacific Division of the Monterey Bay League Diving Championships Wednesday at Christopher High.
Anthony Lopez took first in the Pacific Divison for the boys and came in second overall behind Salinas diver Erich Drollinger. Lopez racked up 391.40 total points with his highest marks coming in the forward one and a half somersault pike. Noah Vasquez wasn’t far behind, finishing with 375.60 total points for the Cougars. The sophomore picked up his highest net total—19.5 points—in the back somersault straight event.
Both Lopez and Vasquez will continue onto the Central Coast Championship tournament on May 16th at the Santa Clara Swim Center.
On the girls side, Jennifer Kuwabara finished first the Pacific Division and fifth overall. She netted 272 total points with her highest score coming in the back dive straight.
“This is an amazing accomplishment since all three Christopher divers are sophomores,” coach Paul Wells said. “Anthony is in his second year of diving and Noah and Jennifer in their first year.”
