Christopher outhit Monterey 9-6 Tuesday, but couldn’t best the Toredores in the runs column.
The Cougars dropped their third straight with a 5-4 loss at Monterey.Â
Christopher led 4-3 in the top of the fifth, but — as was the story all game — the Toredores were able to reclaim the lead with two runs of their own for the final score.
Christopher drew first blood with a run in the first, but the lead was short lived as the hosts answered with a two spot in the bottom of the inning. The Cougars evened the score at 2-2 with a run in the top of the second, but Monterey was able to regain the lead with a run of its own in the bottom of the third.Â
Brian Easton was a perfect 4 for 4 for the Cougars with a stolen base. Gordy Papalias had two RBIs on one hit, while Kevin Willard had one on two hits and a run scored.Â
Nathan Bonsell was handed the loss, giving up three runs on five hits through four innings. He also had a walk and two strikeouts.
Christopher will have a shot at redemption with a 4 p.m. contest at Monterey Thursday.
Mustangs game postponed due to darkness
Gilroy’s contest with Salinas ended in a 7-7 tie as the game was called due to darkness.Â
The remainder of Tuesday’s game will be played before Thursday’s 4 p.m. contest at Salinas.

Cougars keep streak alive with win over Carmel
The Christopher boys volleyball team won its 10th straight, a 3-0 decision over Carmel Tuesday at home.
Christopher (14-3 overall, 9-1 in league) won 25-21, 27-25, 26-24 behind Emmanuel Salcedo’s 13 kills.Â
Francisco Rodriguez led with 15 passes while Phil Castro had 65 assists. Marcus Torres recorded three aces.
Christopher will look to keep the streak alive when it takes on Gonzales at 6:30 p.m. on the road.Â
Mustangs fall to Pajaro Valley
There was a hidden gem inside of Gilroy’s loss to Pajaro Valley Tuesday.
For the first time all season, the Mustangs won a match. Gilroy lost 3-1, but the match victory is a sign the team is improving.

Gilroy (0-10) will take on Seaside at 6:30 p.m. Thursday on the road.
