It was a battle, but a 38-point second half showing from its opponent was too much for the Christopher girls basketball team to overcome.
The Cougars lost 52-45 to Petaluma to close out the West Coast Jamboree Tournament Monday. The loss is their fourth straight.
Christopher led 17-14 at the half and maintained it leading 38-34 heading into the final frame. But Petaluma didn’t let up, outscoring the Cougars 18-7 in the fourth.Â
The tournament concludes Christopher’s preseason schedule. It will begin league play at 7 p.m. Jan. 7 at North Salinas.Â

Current, former Mustangs go head-to-head in Alumni Game
Taylor Slattery, Katelyn Nebesnick and Indra Garcia took the field at the Garcia Elder Sports Complex — no this is not an old story.
The trio returned with several other Gilroy High alumni to play the current squad of Mustangs on Dec. 21, wrapping up the team’s preseason schedule.

It was a friendly contest and no score was reported, but the game did give  the past GHS players  a chance to offer some wisdom to their descendants.Â
“(They) told them to keep working hard, have a positive attitude and to never give up,” Mustangs coach Mario Gomez said.Â
Slattery is a 2013 grad who plays for the University of Utah. Nebesnick and Garcia are both 2011 alums, attending Cal State Stanislaus and Cal Poly Pamona, respectively. Nebesnick earned All-American honors for her performance this season.
