Gilroy Mustangs

Alisal was looking to go 10-0 for the first time since 2005. Gilroy, with its own agenda, put an end to that.
The Mustangs topped the visitors 51-48 Tuesday at Gilroy High. The team, currently 12-8 on the season and 9-1 in league, has its sights set on a playoff berth as well as a slice of the Monterey Bay Pacific League pie. The Mustangs are currently in a two-way tie with Alisal for first place.
Holly Lam led the Mustangs with 11 points, followed by Maddy Cox with 10. Leilani Mah added nine points.
“Defensively we played very hard and hustled the entire game,” Mustangs coach Mitchell Piece said via text. “(I’m) very proud of my girls.”
The Mustangs will play their final home game of the regular season at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Everett Alvarez. They wrap-up the regular season at North Monterey County at 7 p.m. Feb. 20.
Foster leads CHS past Spirits
The Christopher girls basketball team held Notre Dame to single digits in all but one quarter Tuesday.
Ally Foster led the Cougars with 14 points to a 40-31 win over ND in Salinas. CHS completed the season sweep of the Spirits with the win.
Christopher jumped out to a 23-11 lead at halftime, but the hosts weren’t about to go down without a fight. The Spirits held the Cougars to just four points in the third, while scoring nine. Christopher rebounded to outscore ND by two in the final frame.
Cydney Caradonna posted eight points in the game, while Christa Arroyo scored five. Dejah Raoof and Kimberly Scrigione both added four points a piece.
The Cougars (10-10 overall, 5-4 in league) will host their first ever charity game benefitting Rebekah Children’s Services at 7 p.m. Thursday against Monte Vista Christian.
BOYS SOCCER
Cougars edge Palma
The Christopher boys soccer team needed just one goal to walk away victorious Tuesday.
The Cougars got it off the foot of Isaiah Delgado, topping Palma at home.
Christopher (4-7-6 overall, 3-2-5 in league) has just one home game left — a 3:30 p.m. contest Thursday against Monte Vista Christian. The Cougars will finish the regular season at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at Seaside.
Mustangs tie with Salinas
The Gilroy boys soccer team tied 2-2 at Salinas Tuesday.

The Mustangs (11-2-3, 5-2-2) will host Pajaro Valley at 5:45 p.m. Thursday.
