Christopher competes in a hurdles event at the K-Bell Tournament Saturday.

Ally Foster overcame hurdle after hurdle — literally — to finish first for Christopher. 
Foster took the top spot in the 100-meter hurdles in 1.10 while teammate Haley Romero finished fifth at the K-Bell Invite Saturday. The girls finished seventh out of 32 teams with 21 points, while the boys tied for 34th.
Foster also finished fifth in the triple jump (33-06.00) and seventh in the 300 hurdles in 49.82 followed by Bridget Brown who came in 24th for the Cougars (55.68). Romero was sixth in the long jump with a 15-06.75 mark.
The Cougars 1,600 meter relay team — Vanessa Koontz, Alita Watlins, Natalie Gutierrez and Brown — took third in a time of 4:14.04. 
Bryan Pipkin took sixth in the boys pole vault with a 12-06.00 distance. Matthew Reikowski from San Benito took 11th place. Natalie Gutierrez finished ninth in the girls high jump (4-10.00), ahead of Elizabeth Tran of Sobrato who tied for 13th (4-08.00).
Isaac McCrimon finished 10th in the boys long jump with a 20-00.75 mark. San Benito’s Christopher Cook was fourth (21-00.25). 
McCrimon and Jordan Rodriguez were 19th and 21st, respectively, in the boys 100-meter dash for Christopher. Rodriguez also finished 18th in the 200-meter dash. San Benito’s Christopher Len was 22nd, Austin Adame was 35th, Christopher Blake was 37th, Kevin Len was 49th, Aaron Martinez was 64th and Nicholas Trimble was 69th. Cook was 15th for the Balers in the 200-m dash, while Blake was 38th, Cory Matthews was 45th and Trimble was 71st. Sobrato’s AJ King was 25th.
Freshman Sydnie Bunel was 27th in the girls 100-meter dash with a time of 13.63 while Olivia Baxter finished 31st in 13.73. Kailey Harvey took 17th in the 200-meter dash for Christopher in a time of 27.36. Watlins was 19th in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:06.53.
Christopher had a good showing in the girls discus, with three placing in the top 25. Kimberlyn Gilmour led the way for the Cougars finishing 14th with a 87-04 distance. Mackenzie Robinson finished 20th (79-02) and Sienna Cordova was 21st (78-10). Katelyn Viray finished 45th for Christopher (53-06). Breanna Lowther led all South Country competitors with a 98-03 mark for a third place finish for San Benito. Lowther also took sixth in the shot put, ahead of Gilmour in eighth, Cordova in 13th and Viray in 35th.
Brandon Ellenberg finished 40th (12:05.00), while Hector Lopez was 42nd (12:33.80) in the frosh/soph boys 3,200. Kyle Ettema was sixth in the frosh/soph boys pole vault with a 10-00.00 mark. The frosh/soph boys finished 28th. 
San Benito’s Frankie Gutierrez was first in the boys shot put with a 54-03.50 mark and second in the discus (135-06). Cook finished sixth in the boys high jump (6-00.00). 
San Benito finished sixth in the boys 1,600 relay and eighth in the 400 relay. Jorge Aguayo was 12th for the Balers in the 110 meter hurdles. 
Sobrato’s Nolan Doizer was third in the 3,200 in a time of 9:37.28, while San Benito’s Steven Velarde was 11th, Elijah Changco was 12th and Rene Nunez was 34th.Velarde also took 29th in the 1,600 while Changco was 59th and Nunez was 79th. Sobrato’s Matthew Naranjo was 82nd.
Lady Mustangs combine grab a 1st place finish at Wild Cat Relays
The Gilroy girls took home a first place finish in the 2-2-4-8 relay at Watsonville’s Wild Cat Relays Saturday.
It was the highest finish of the day for the Mustangs. The girls also finished fifth in the 1,600 sixth in the 3,200 and 16th in the 400.
The boys relay teams got took sixth in the 3,200 for their best finish of the day. They took 10th in the 2-2-4-8 and ninth in the 12-4-8-16. The Mustangs were also 11th in 800 and 1,600 and 14th in the 400.
Gilroy will host Monterey at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
BASEBALL
Late runs power EV past Christopher
Christopher drew first blood against Evergreen Valley, but the visitors got the last punch. 
Evergreen Valley scored three runs in the top of the sixth to beat the Cougars 6-4 Saturday at Gavilan College. 
Christopher jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second and maintained it until EV put up three in the top of the fourth. The Cougars answered with three of their own in the bottom half, but was unable to push anymore across.
Gordon Papalias went 1 for 3 with an RBI, while Makaio Duyao was 2 for 3 with a run scored.
Josh Wheat was handed the loss, pitching one frame — sixth inning — and giving up three runs on one hit while walking two. 
Christopher (1-2) will start league play at 4 p.m. today at Palma.
SOFTBALL
Mustangs drop two at Circle of Champions
Gilroy’s late rally fell just short against Branham Saturday at the Circle of Champions tournament in Salinas.
The Mustangs lost 7-6, despite a run in the bottom of the seventh. Their woes continued with an 8-0 shutout by Carlmont to end the day.

The Mustangs (1-3) will look to rebound at 4 p.m. Wednesday against Valley Christian.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Alisal routs Gilroy
The Gilroy boys volleyball team got off to a slow start that it just couldn’t recover from.
The Mustangs lost 3-0 to Alisal to start league play Thursday at home. Gilroy lost 7-25, 11-25, 22-25.

Christopher falls to Salinas
The Christopher boys volleyball team lost 3-2 at Salinas Thursday.

LACROSSE
Aptos tops Cougars
One goal was all the Christopher lacrosse team was able to muster in its 14-1 loss at Aptos Friday. 
The visitors scored three in the first, seven in the second and two in the third and four quarters for the final.
Christopher will look to rebound at 5 p.m. Friday at Soquel. 
BOYS TENNIS
Cougars lose to LO, top Oakwood
The Christopher boys tennis team had split results against the Morgan Hill teams Wednesday.
The Cougars beat Oakwood 4-3, but fell to Live Oak 7-0.
The Acorns won three out of the four singles matches as well as the No. 1 doubles match. The other matches were all won by default.
The Cougars also played Oakwood later and won in the same way LO had earlier. No. 1 singles player Destin Cockcroft won 6-2, 6-1 while No. 2 Geoffrey He won his match 6-0, 6-2. Dominic Nguyen, the No. 3, won 6-4, 7-5. Oakwood won the No. 4 singles match by default.
The No. 1 doubles team of Tom Madruga and Jesus Velasquez also won 6-1, 6-1. The Hawks took the other two doubles matches by default.
Christopher (1-1) will be back on the courts at 4 p.m. today to host Alisal.
