Gilroy Mustangs
The Gilroy field hockey team started its season off on the right foot, going undefeated at the Varsity Jamboree tournament Saturday at Saratoga.
 
Morgan Rogars was one of the top scorers for the Mustangs, who topped Los Altos 4-0, Saratoga 1-0 and tied with Archbishop Mitty 1-1.
 
Coach Adam Gemar also noted Cathy Carbajal and Carli Colyer as standouts from the tournament. 
 
Gilroy (2-0-1) will host North Salinas at 3:30 p.m. Thursday before playing in the Leigh Roundup tournament Friday and Saturday.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Cougars go 2-3 at Spikefest I tourney
Christa Arroyo is settling into the setter role nicely. 
The Christopher junior had double-digit assists in all but one of the team’s five matches at the Spikefest I tournament Saturday. Arroyo finished with 88 assists on the day as the Cougars went 2-3.
The Cougars topped Woodside 23-25, 23-25 in Match 3 for their first win of the day. Olivia Tabron and Katelyn Viray powered the offense with eight kills a piece, while Arroyo had 22 assists. Viray also had 10 digs and two blocks and Tabron added three aces. 
Christopher also won its last match of the day 25-21, 25-19 over Abraham Lincoln. Ally Foster led the Cougars with nine kills, while Arroyo had a tournament-high 23 assists as well as four aces. Viray had 12 digs.
Christopher got off to a tough start, dropping its first match to Clovis East 10-25, 14-25. Tabron led the offense with eight kills, while Marielle Gomez had 10 digs and Arroyo had 14 assists. 
The Cougars battled Amador Valley in their second match, only to lose 25-27, 20-25. Viray had six kills in that match, Tabron had five and Foster accounted for four. Arroyo had 20 assists. 
Christopher (3-3) will play back-to-back-to-back games this week, starting with a 6:30 p.m. contest against Mount Madonna School Tuesday at home. The Cougars will host St. Francis Central Coast Catholic at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday before traveling to Sobrato at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
