Dear Editor,

The quote about the Quail Canyon Inn having a bad reputation for tough customers is wrong! I have lived in Gilroy for six years. My husband found this quaint little place to go to get away and relax – great atmosphere and friendly people. After going to the Quail for a couple years, he got the motorcycle fever. He had had several motorcycles in his earlier years. I agreed to him getting a motorcycle. It was the best thing we ever did.

He introduced me to the Quail. There I found friends, which I have not had since I moved to Gilroy. The group is not a tough gang group. We met a lot of nice couples who ride motorcycles and some who do not. There are people who have only $1 to their name and some that have millions. It does not matter. We all became friends and this became our meeting place. We started having barbecues on Friday night. Everyone would get together and bring something. Even if we did not know them, we invited them to our barbecue. It became a regular Friday night thing and we became a family. On Sundays, the owner would make her traditional beans. They were always served at 2pm. Many people came to the Quail just for that meal and to socialize with friends.

Since I have been going to the Quail, I have not witnessed any violence or heard of any. No police have ever been called on any episodes. I brought my parents here and relatives from out of state. They loved it. They saw what great friends we have.

If this was a violent place, I would not be going there much less bringing relatives. When we heard the news that the Quail had burned down, everyone was on the phone calling and e-mailing all our friends who became a part of the Quail. We were all saddened and devastated. Where are we all going to meet now for our regular BBQ, Sunday beans, birthday parties or just to go hang out and be with our friends? The Quail Canyon Inn is a major disaster to what they call us “Quail Folks.” We have lost our home away from home. We are hoping that the Quail can be rebuilt. Otherwise we are lost without it.

THE QUAIL CANYON INN IS MISSED. Let’s hope it can be rebuilt!
