Gilroy – The silence since the 4.3-magnitude earthquake in Aromas July 2 means smaller, successive “micro earthquakes” haven’t released pressure that could erupt this week in the form of a single tectonic rumble measuring 4.5 or greater, according to earthquake researcher Luke Thomas.
The Florida-based former meteorologist is warning on his website, QuakePrediction.com, that Morgan Hill, Hollister, and Gilroy are due for a shaking in the next five days since it’s been nearly two months since July 2. Areas in the northwest and extreme south of California should see activity this week, as well, Thomas said.
“Gilroy is a very sensitive area because pressure builds up quickly. Since July 2, the pressure’s building up again because there haven’t been the normal amount of micro earthquakes in your area,” Thomas said, referring to gentle jolts measuring 2.0 or less.
Thomas said he accurately labeled the South Valley area “high-risk” in his June 29 forecast that preceded the July 2 tremble.
“Have a great Monday and Tuesday,” Thomas says in the Aug. 20 video on his website, “and we’ll talk to you Wednesday.”
