DEAR EDITOR:
I have noticed lately that the “Gilroy Almanac”, which is the temperature and precipitation listed daily in The Dispatch, that the records are now kept by Accu Weather Real Feel. I have no idea where their rain gauge is located.
In any case, they are not reporting the precipitation correctly.
The rain season runs from July 1st to June 30th of each year. The Dispatch reported in the “Gilroy Almanac” on Dec. 30, 2003, Year to date 7.16 inches.
It reports month to date for January 2004 at 2.15 inches which equates out to 9.31 inches for season to date. Thus the correct way Accu Weather Real Feel should be reporting the precipitation to The Dispatch at this time is:
Precipitation:
Yesterday………………….0.00
Month to date…………..2.15
Season to date…………..9.31
I trust they will make this correction.
By the way, my total for season to date is 13.24 inches.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Thanks for giving us the opportunity to clarify this. Accu Weather does not have a rain station in Gilroy, so we use the Gilroy Fire Department gauge numbers from the Chestnut Street station. Rainfall totals do vary in areas in and around Gilroy. We have adjusted the categories to reflect season to date numbers.
