GILROY – Randy Guerrero will represent Northern California June 8-13 when the 17-year-old attempts to qualify for the 2012 USA Olympic Boxing Team.

Given just three days notice to fight in a qualification tournament held in Sacramento on May 2, Guerrero was forced to compete in the 132-pound division. He went 1-1 in two fights, losing on the second day in a split decision.

With no one representing Northern California at nationals in the 125-pound division, and seeing how well Guerrero performed at a higher weight class, USA Boxing offered Guerrero an invitation to the event. Guerrero’s older brothers Ruben and Robert, a two-time world champ, both took similar paths as amateurs.
