Big Grievances brushed off a 14-0 deficit Wednesday to surprise the Warriors 57-50 and leave both teams at 7-3 in the Men’s Adult Basketball League standings at Solorsano Gymnasium.
The Grievances and Warriors will meet in the first round of the playoffs Wednesday Feb. 1 at 8 p.m. at Solorsano Gym. Hard Ninety, at 10-0 the regular-season champion, plays fourth-seed Hawks at 7 p.m.
Christopher Bibaeff hit three field goals in the first 5:30 of play as the Warriors produced a 14-0 lead. Matt Goshia put the Grievances on the board with a layup 7:05 into action.
LaMont Chappell’s rebound and layup for the Grievances left the score even at 18-18. Chappell finished with 10 points in the half as the Grievances took a 28-24 lead into the intermission.
Chappell led all scorers with 17 points. Jason Wolowitz, good for four three-point field goals, and Saleem Vakili each netted 14 points for the winners.
Bibaeff notched 14 points, Hector Salgado 12 for the Warriors.
Hard Ninety received 26 points from Josh Bleem to top the Hawks 55-40 in a preview of the playoff showdown.
Brendan Greene added nine points for Hard Ninety. Mark Taylan struck for 13 points, Hans Mendonca 11 for the Hawks.
Morgan Hill Garage Door (4-6) outlasted Yea Buddy 75-68 behind 25 points from Matt Wendt.
Danny Rodriguez hustled to 23 points and Sig Reynisson recorded 18 for Morgan Hill Garage Door. Justin Nicholson struck for 34 points and Jeff Smith followed with 26 for Yea Buddy.
