Striping concerns: “I have a big concern about pedestrian walkways across intersections. They’re not being kept up. Take a look at the intersection of Leavesley and Murray. It’s one of the busiest intersections in Gilroy. A while back the Dispatch put together an article on pedestrian accidents in the city and … I think the city needs to stay on top of painting those sites for the pedestrians. Moreso, those stripes are for folks to see while they’re driving vehicles. Thank you for your help. Hopefully people will learn to be aware of pedestrian crossings throughout Gilroy and make this a safer place. Thank you.”
Thanks for the heads up on your safety concerns, caller.
The Red Phone contacted the city’s Engineering Department and touched base with the always helpful Don Dey regarding the crosswalk stripe fading.
Dey did thank the caller for his concern and said, “The intersection at Leavesley and Murray is maintained by Caltrans. I will forward your request on to the Caltrans maintenance department and they will go out and take a look at it. Then they’ll take whatever action they deem necessary.”
The Red Phone then also left a message with Caltrans regarding the intersection.
For other crosswalk concerns, contact Gilroy’s Engineering Department at 846-0450. To contact Caltrans, visit their Web site at www.dot.ca.gov, where various issues are addressed and forms are available to contact the department.
Problematic landscaping: “I’d like to call about the maintenance issue at Solorsano Middle School, one of our new schools. The interior maintenance is pretty good, but around the new track there’s weeds growing actually in the track dirt and gophers around the exterior. It’s just a mess. I know the school district promised to maintain the new facilities when the bond was passed and this is a bad example of that. Thanks.”
The Red Phone relayed your issue to Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services Steve Brinkman.
“We’ll get to that as soon as we can,” he said.
But not to worry, caller, kids won’t be tripping over weeds while running on the track. Although he didn’t give a specific clean-up timeline, Brinkman did add: “Before school starts that should be taken care of.”
Lovin’ Bonnie: “Hi, I just wanted to say I thoroughly enjoy Bonnie Evans’ columns. I related to it so much today, July 20. It was just a sweet story and I identified with it a lot and really appreciate reading her column on the editorial page. I think she should keep writing. Thank you so much Bonnie!”
Thanks for the call. The Red Phone and the Dispatch staff appreciate hearing feedback regarding columnists – and the columnists enjoy it too.
New obituary format: “I have a compliment. I want to tell the Dispatch how much I appreciate the obituaries being written up. It’s very classy and it’s very nice. Thank you and have a great day.”
Once again, thanks for the feedback and the compliment. Both positive and negative feedback help the Dispatch staff determine what needs work – and what doesn’t.
