Dear Editor,
We just had our first Team Captain’s meeting for the 2005 Gilroy
Relay For Life. It was a great start! We had a total of 16 teams
sign up with the promise of many more. Our goal this year is to
have 75 teams and with 58 teams last year I know we will exceed
that number.
Dear Editor,
We just had our first Team Captain’s meeting for the 2005 Gilroy Relay For Life. It was a great start! We had a total of 16 teams sign up with the promise of many more. Our goal this year is to have 75 teams and with 58 teams last year I know we will exceed that number.
In my conversations with many people I have found that people just don’t have the time to participate and then when a family member or friend is stricken they call me and say that they need to join Relay. Why does it take this for people to get involved? It is time for everyone to take a proactive approach not a reactive one. People need to understand that by being part of Relay you are directly helping to save lives through educational programs, providing care and support to those battling cancer and enabling much needed research in OUR COMMUNITY.
Many cancer survivors participate in Relay. They courageously participate knowing that their efforts make a difference. We need to understand that our participation in this 24-hour event is just one day of our important lives but, we need to also understand that a cancer survivors battle is 24/7 for the rest of their lives. Is a 24-hour period to much to ask for to show support for all cancer survivors, and loved ones we’ve lost to this disease in our community? Because, let’s face it, we all know someone who has faced cancer. Let’s rally around our family, friends and neighbors. Join us at Gilroy’s Relay For Life on June 18 and 19 in support of cancer survivors, in memory of those we have lost, and to show that this community wants a cure!
Team Captain’s meetings are scheduled for April 5, May 3, May 31, June 13, and June 15 at The Tutoring Club located at 401 First Street, at 6:30pm. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
