GILROY – Lords, ladies and peasants alike are invited to the 37th annual Renaissance Pleasure Faire job fair this Saturday.

Around 500 positions are available for cashiers, security and access-control personnel, maintenance workers, food-and-beverage servers, sales clerks and more.

Those hired will help visitors step back in time to a 16th Century village where more than 1,000 costumed performers wander the streets, artisans sell their crafts and knights in shining armor duel.

“The faire is entertaining, so employees have to be outgoing and theatrical. They will be in costume and it’s a long day in the sun, so being energetic is important,” Venta Leon, beverage and catering director said.

The Renaissance Faire is also looking for applicants who love to work with people and are available every weekend from Sept. 6 to Oct. 16.

“We want people who will connect with us, have their own costume and come back every year,” she said.

The Pleasure Faire will offer costume workshops for those hired.

They will accept workers 16 years of age and older. Students should have a proper work permit. Most employees will be paid minimum wage.

Each person will have an opportunity to speak with faire representatives and fill out an application. Applicants are asked to dress comfortably and bring a hat and water. They should meet at gate six at Casa de Fruta on Highway 152 starting at 9 a.m.

There will be five stages, 150 crafts booths and 18 food booths.

The faire has expanded this year to include 20 exhibitions and demonstrations for locals and visitors to enjoy.

“We were thrilled when they chose to house the faire at Casa de Fruta as it gave people just another reason to visit our area in the off months, just coming off Garlic Festival. The overnight visitors were a welcomed addition after our tougher fall in 2001,” Kristen Carr with the Visitors Bureau said.

The Pleasure Faire runs Saturdays and Sundays and is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Tickets cost $20 for adults, $17.50 for juniors, seniors, students and military, $9.50 for children 5 to 11 and free for children under 5. Parking is free, preferred parking is $10. Details and tickets: www.renfair.com.
