An unknown person fired an unspecified number of shots into La Hacienda Mexican Restaurant in an apparently gang-related incident.

The First Street restaurant had already closed Saturday night and only three employees were still in the store when, at 11:02 p.m., the unknown assailant or assailants shot at the building from the back parking lot, police said. Police did not have a description of the assailant or assailants.

Police did not know the motive for the shooting, which happened near Westwood Drive, but did think the incident was gang-related, police said. However, there was no reason given to support this conclusion.

Police also did not say whether the shooting was related to the gang-related fracases that broke out at Gilroy High School Friday morning and afternoon. Those fights – which brought more than 30 police officers in riot gear to supervise the campus during dismissal – ended with police arresting seven students and school officials taking disciplinary action against an additional 15 to 20 students.
