Goalie makes nine saves for third straight shutout in local
stickhandlers’ 2-0 win
MONTEREY – Behind netminder Sam Sicard’s third straight shutout in league, the Lady Mustang stickhandlers secured a 2-0 road victory over Monterey on Wednesday.

Gilroy (8-1 overall, 3-0 in T-CAL) scored two first-half goals by Maday Garcia and Janell Perez off short corners to jump out in front.

“Overall, we played pretty good,” head coach Adam Gemar said. “We started out pretty sluggish. Then we took a time out about 10 minutes in and dominated from there. We took it to them.”

But in the second half, the Lady Toreadors mounted several attacks only to be thwarted by the efforts of Sicard (nine saves) and the Gilroy defense.

“Sam Sicard played excellent in net,” said Gemar of Gilroy’s player of the game. “That was her third straight league shutout.”

FUTURE STARS: In the junior varsity game, Gilroy also posed a shutout with a 3-0 victory. Goals were scored by Kelly Perkins, Cydney Fong and Jennifer Robinson.
