The Silicon Valley Storm 12-and-under travel baseball team enjoyed another successful week at Cooperstown Dreams Park, last month, soaking up the scenery as well as putting together a solid performance on the diamond.
The locals (players from Gilroy, Morgan Hill and San Jose fill out the roster) posted a 7-1 record, surviving through one round of the tournament playoffs before losing a close 12-10 decision in the second round.
Wins for the Storm came against Florida’s Team Rawlings (14-1), Tennessee’s Memphis Tigers (6-4), Colorado’s Diamond Dogs (25-1), Louisiana’s Big Easy Sportsplex White (19-1), Michigan’s Elite Strike (24-1) and Georgia’s East Cobb Phillies (4-3.)
The Storm was seeded fifth entering the playoffs. A 14-1 victory over Tennessee’s Germantown Giants sent the boys into Round 2 versus Team Worth out of Florida. Despite two home runs apiece from Patrick Wicklander and Ryan Belluomini, the Storm fell short.
In all, the team recorded 28 home runs. PJ Rochon, Anthony Barnao and Belluomini each had grand slams, while Wicklander led the way with seven home runs and Belluomini had five and both DJ Washington and Barnao had four.
