A San Jose man was killed Thursday night when his motorcycle crashed into a set of ladders strewn across U.S. Highway 101, ejecting him from the bike and into the path of a Gilroy motorist, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Hoc Nguyen, 28, was traveling south on the highway near Metcalf Road at approximately 70 mph in the fast lane when he ran over a set of orange fiberglass ladders partially blocking the far two left lanes, according to a CHP news release.
Nguyen was ejected from his motorcycle and into the far right lane at 10:56 p.m. where a 2000 Honda driven by a 63-year-old Gilroy man struck him, according to the CHP.
A witness pulled the man out of the roadway and administered CPR before San Jose police officers arrived and continued the attempt to revive him, but the man was pronounced dead at 11:10 p.m., the CHP said.
The driver from Gilroy was not arrested and did not suffer any injuries.
Southbound traffic lanes were closed for approximately an hour as officers collected evidence at the scene, including the orange ladders. Anyone with information regarding the two orange fiberglass ladders lost on U.S. 101 can contact Officer S. Parra of the California Highway Patrol at (408) 848-2324.
