The Silicon Valley Glory 18U Gold fastpitch softball team took third place at the ASA NorCal Championship tournament last weekend. Glory has posted a season record of 9-2-1, including an impressive 5-1 for the tournament.
The lone defeat – a narrow 2-0 decision – came against the Chico Stars and University of Oregon pitcher, Jessica Moore.
Even with the third-place finish, the Glory have claim a berth to Nationals, which will be held in Hemet, CA, August 1-through 8.
Three Glory players finished with a batting average of .400 for the tournament, including the team’s two youngest players, Gilroy native Kristen Dennis and Morgan Hill’s Kirsten Doting.
Five other players batted over .300, including Gilroy’s Emily and Alissa Castro, Lindsay Holt, Michelle Sosa and Morgan Hill’s Erin Leggett.
Outfielder Emily Castro and pitcher Sammy McConvey both hit home runs. Stephanie Doting and Elaina Vasquez prowled the outfield to make some stellar catches on defense.
“Every member of the team made huge contributions to secure the third place win, and the team is excited for an opportunity at Nationals in August,” manager Dennis Castro said.
