Gavilan softball gets No. 14 seed, plays College of the Sequoias
on Saturday.
GILROY – Though an April 15 loss to Cabrillo threw a wrench into the Gavilan College women’s softball team’s progress toward a Coast Conference South championship, the Lady Rams finished in second place and are poised to make a run in the 2010 Northern California Community College Regional playoffs.

Gavilan, the No. 14 seed, will travel to Visalia on Saturday for the start of a best-of-3 series with the No. 3-seeded College of the Sequoias in the first-round of the playoffs.

“I’m very happy with it,” Gavilan manager Nikki Dequin said of the pairing with the Giants. “I think it will be a good matchup because of the way we played them earlier in the season. We are playing a lot better than we were back then.”

The two teams converged for a doubleheader back in February in Gilroy. The Lady Rams (25-12) dropped both encounters, but took the Giants into the 12th inning before losing Game 1 7-5. COS (34-6) won the second game 5-1.
