The No. 8 seeded Gilroy softball team pounded 11 hits on their way to a 7-1 victory over Willow Glen in the opening round of the Central Coast Section playoffs Wednesday.
The Mustangs scored their first run in the bottom of the second inning to take an early 1-0 lead. The Mustangs added two more runs in the fourth inning before pulling away with four runs in the fifth inning.
With the victory, Gilroy advances to Saturday’s second round game against Mitty (25-0). The game begins at 2 p.m. at San Jose PAL Stadium.
