Watching sports these days is getting tough to stomach.

For those of you who read Ana Patejdl’s column on her experience at last Thursday’s Fight Night at the Tank, she wasn’t joking about the horrible cut above the left eye of one of the boxers in the first fight. It was pretty disturbing to look at the wound as it dumped blood onto the side of the fighter’s face.

Then there was Chelsea Davis’ faceplant on the diving board in last Friday’s World Swimming Championships. I don’t know how she’s even managing to correctly spell her last name after that one. But it sounds like Davis is planning to get back on the board this Sunday at any rate.

Red Sox pitcher Matt Clement provided us with sports’ latest heart-stopping incident when he took a line drive off his head, one that ended up in left field, in Tuesday’s game against Tampa Bay. Amazingly, as in Davis’ case, Clement is doing fine and has been cleared to rejoin the team after being released from the hospital on Wednesday.

nHockey’s back and I don’t give a hoot. What’s that you say? My favorite team and perennial Stanley Cup contender, the Colorado Avalanche, re-signed Joe Sakic and Rob Blake? Big deal. Couldn’t care less.

nKenny Rogers is still an idiot.

nSpeaking of idiots, I just read that O.J. Simpson has been ordered to pay $25,000 in damages to DirecTV for stealing the company’s services. I know that stealing cable is a far cry from lopping off the heads of two innocent people but seriously, how much lower can this one-time sports icon get? Maybe O.J. should get into politics.

nSuperagent Drew Rosenhaus must be stopped. Is it just me or is this guy single-handily destroying NFL teams one-by-one? Obviously, Terrell Owens is the most high-profile disgruntled player in the league and, as his agent, Rosenhaus has a lot to do with that. Whatever. As a Packer fan, I can’t think of a team that I dislike more at this point than the Philadelphia Eagles.

That said, Rosenhaus and a couple of his clients who play for the Green and Gold are making preseason life tough in Green Bay. And while I agree that both Javon Walker, the Pack’s Pro Bowl wideout, and Grady Jackson both deserve better contracts, I believe that they’re getting terrible advice from their agent, Mr. Rosenhaus. It seems to me that these players would be much better served if they just showed up to camp as the terms of the contracts they SIGNED dictate, show that they’re acting in good faith and go from there to procure the deals they deserve.

nI hate to sound so negative this week but I saw something on CNN today that disturbed me. Several things, actually, but one in particular that is going to prompt a change to this column.

Out of all the new talking heads on the news networks these days, I can’t think of one who makes my skin crawl more than Nancy Grace. And today, as I sipped my coffee and scanned the news channels, I caught a preview clip for her show in which she refers to it as “The Real Deal.”

Which means that I have to change the title of this column. I’ve said it before, I didn’t come up with the name in the first place. What the heck do I know about anything? Anyway, if you have any suggestions (that don’t involve profanity or the phrase “Staloch is a big idiot,” call the Green Phone or shoot me an e-mail and let me know.
