SAN JOSE – The USTA Girls’ 18 National Championships are coming this Aug. 8-15 at AVAC, in San Jose.

The tournament is recognized as the foremost junior tennis event where the nation’s top junior female tennis players compete for a US Open wildcard in both single and doubles events. This year marks AVAC’s 20th anniversary sending up-and-coming world-class athletes to the US Open.

Many of the participants come from local high schools and go onto play at Cal and Stanford in the collegiate ranks including last year’s winner Theresa Logar. Others have been recruited during a session called College Coaches Forum where coaches and recruiters from many of the nation’s top universities come to meet and speak to the participants.

This tournament has produced currently ranked players such as 1991 champion Lindsay Davenport (#4), 1990 champion Lisa Raymond (#27), 1989 champion Jennifer Capriati (#6) and most recently 1999 and 1998 champion Laura Granville (#54).
