The Gavilan College women's volleyball program reappeared in 2005 after an 11-year hiatus. Two years later, Kevin Kramer took over as head coach, quickly, and quietly, turning a team that totaled a combined eight victories in 2005-06 to a conference contender.

A year ago, David Kaplansky took over a Gavilan College men’s basketball program that had finished 1-22 the previous season. It’s apparent the former San Benito High coach has steered the Rams in the right direction.

GILROY—The camaraderie in the Gavilan College gym Tuesday was undeniable. After each drill, the Rams volleyball players huddled together to acknowledge each other's accomplishments, always ending with a “Go Rams” chant before breaking. That, head coach Kevin Kramer said, is what an entire summer of bonding does for a team.

Gavilan football players are getting a much-needed breather this week and next as the Rams have reached their state-imposed practice limits.
