Each week we will recognize one area male and female athlete for their performances. This week's are:

GILROY—Though the season is over, Gavilan’s success continues.

The Gavilan women's basketball team picked up a big 53-50 win over Feather River Thursday on the road. 

For the sixth straight year, the Gavilan volleyball team is headed to the playoffs. 

EUREKA—Gavilan was 40 seconds away from ending the season with a ‘W’ in Eureka, but the College of the Redwoods squad had other plans. With just three seconds left, the Corsairs’ John Tanner Westby kicked a 40-yard field goal to tie the game at 35-all and send it into overtime.

GAVILAN RAMS

The Gavilan women's team picked up its first win of the young season, beating Reedley 77-74 at home Wednesday. 

The Gavilan men's basketball team dropped its third straight game Tuesday night. 

Samantha Nydam led Gavilan with 11 kills, helping it to a 3-0 sweep of Ohlone Friday at home.
