The Gavilan College Rams softball team had the bats working overtime Tuesday, racking up a combined 22 runs in a doubleheader sweep of visiting West Hills College.

However, an unfathomable 3-pointer and a pair of Panthers free throws carried Hartnell to a 76-73 win over the Rams.

The Gavilan College softball team opened the 2012 season hosting a doubleheader Saturday. The Rams split the day's action, first defeating Porterville College 3-2 before falling in the nightcap, 4-1, to De Anza College.
BASKETBALL: Rams close gap, can’t finish in loss to MPC
In the second half of Friday night's game against visiting Monterey Peninsula College, the Gavilan men's basketball team chipped away at an 11-point deficit, sculpting a manageable four-point dilemma with plenty of time to spare. In workman-like fashion, the Rams again pulled themselves to the surface with another four-point climb ahead after the Lobos had stretched their lead back to 10 midway through.

The Gavilan College men's soccer season ended Nov. 11, but the signs left behind tell of a turnaround campaign that included the most wins in program history.
