FOOTBALL: Gilroy, Christopher geared for Week 2 of league play

Christopher High faces a Palma team that has given up 66 points through four games. Gilroy High hosts Monterey, a team that scored more than 40 points in each of its first three games this season. And so begins Week 2 of the vaunted Monterey Bay League Gabilan Division.

CROSS COUNTRY: Christopher girls earn five of six points at second league meet

Christopher’s freshmen duo of Jamie Boutte’ (19 minutes, 56 seconds) and Natalie Filippi (21:24) placed first and third, respectively, but the varsity girls fell shy of the top spot at the second Monterey Bay League Pacific Division Center Meet of the season Wednesday at Toro Park.

Mills scored four times - three in the first half - as the Cougars set the tone and tipped its Monterey Bay League Gabilan Division opener in its favor with a 41-19 victory over Everett Alvarez on Friday night in Gilroy.

Christopher High head coach Brian Calimpong knew a challenge would be presented to his volleyball team by Pajaro Valley. But the Cougars, who were coming off of a 3-0 win over Gilroy, wrapped up their second straight match in three sets Thursday night.

Friends, family and familiar faces gathered on the pool deck at Christopher High as the town’s two water polo programs met head to head Thursday afternoon.
