Felicia Newell has the same interests as any other 17-year-old girl: she likes to exercise, dance and play sports. The only difference is that Newell has cerebral palsy, which Mayo Clinic defines as “a disorder of movement, muscle tone or posture that is caused by injury or abnormal development in the immature brain, most often before birth.” Her condition also resulted in a mild case of mental retardation.

Eight Gilroy wrestlers left Palma High victorious Tuesday night. The Mustangs topped the hosts 57-15, losing only one match — heavyweight Santino Orozco lost 6-4 — and forfeiting two (122 and 140). Nikko Villarreal (154) and Paul Fox (162) maintained their unblemished records, each notching a 'w' at the bout. Villarrel won his match by pin, while Fox won by fall. Julian Carabajal (172) had the tough task of facing Palma's best wrestler, Martin Martinez. Carbajal was able to get the cradle in the third period to win by fall at 5:25. Gavin Melendez (108) got a nearside cradle at 1:14 to win by fall. Will Calderon (115) also won by fall at 5:03 of his bout. Victor Daza (128) won by a 9-4 decision, while Victor Olmos (134) won by fall at 3:45. Lupe Jimenez (145) won by pin. Gilroy won the 184, 197 and 220 lb. bouts by forfeit. ROUNDUP: GHS boys hoops downed in overtime at Chase Tournament
The Gilroy High boys basketball team scrapped its way into overtime after Christian Goldstein hit a 3-pointer as time ran out in regulation, however Damonte Ranch scored seven points - all from the free throw line - in the extra session to top the Mustangs 44-40 in the first round of the Sobrato Bulldog Chase Tournament on Tuesday night in Morgan Hill.
