Results covered each end of the spectrum for the Christopher High girls tennis team's representatives at the Monterey Bay League championships this week.

The Gilroy and San Benito girls soccer teams entered Wednesday’s Monterey Bay League Gabilan Division opener with renewed optimism—and for good reason.

GILROY—The familiar sounds of pads crunching and helmets clashing echoed throughout the Garcia-Elder Sports Complex on Friday evening. That sound could only mean one thing: Mustang football is back.

David Valencia, Andres Jimenez and Miguel Gutierrez scored one goal each to lead Gilroy High’s boys soccer team to a 3-0 win at Saratoga in the first round of the Central Coast Section Division III playoffs Tuesday night.

SALINAS—Things didn't go as planned for Gilroy or Christopher Friday as both teams left Salinas with a loss. The Mustangs fell 21-7 to Alisal, while the Cowboys sent the Cougars home with a 41-7 loss.

GILROY—Christopher’s Anthony Sammut had always played quarterback since taking up football in fifth grade. When coach Tim Pierleoni reassigned him as a wide receiver his junior year, it was difficult to accept.

Two Mustangs made their wrestling debut this past weekend and they picked up first place finishes in the process. 

The Gilroy High boys varsity volleyball team collected a 3-1 record and a Silver Bracket championship at the Hammering and Roofing Seminar hosted by Willow Glen High School in San Jose on Saturday.

The Christopher lacrosse team is off to a red hot start.
