Soccer: GHS boys topple No. 1 seed, continue magical run

Gilroy High’s Cinderella run through the Central Coast Section Division III boys soccer playoffs continued Saturday, as the Mustangs eliminated No. 1 seed Half Moon Bay, 7-6 on penalty kicks after the match had been tied 3-3 at Garcia-Elder Sports Complex.

Hoops: Balanced Cougars stay perfect in MBL girls standings

Olivia Tabron scored 13 points to lead three double-figure scorers as Christopher’s girls basketball team stayed undefeated in the Monterey Bay League with a 51-33 victory at Salinas on Tuesday night.

SOCCER: Christopher boys open season with win

Josue Salgado scored twice in the second half Tuesday to lift Christopher’s boys soccer team to a season-opening 4-2 victory over visiting Gonzales.

End in sight for GHS bleacher woes

GILROY—This time last year, Gilroy High was scrambling for a solution for its condemned bleachers. The home side bleachers had been deemed “not structurally sound” by San Jose-based Duquette Engineering and were said to be out of commission until April 2014. 

CROSS COUNTRY: Mustangs improve times at El Toro

The third Monterey Bay League Gabilan Division cross country Center Meet at El Toro on Wednesday served as a useful gauge for Gilroy High coaches Cathy and Art Silva.
