The Gilroy Mustangs were so close to victory they could taste it.

Angelica Carrillo pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts, scattering seven hits, but Christopher High’s softball team suffered a 5-0 home loss to Soquel on Monday.

Christopher wasted little time to jumping out to a lead against Sobrato.

Gilroy High’s Cinderella run through the Central Coast Section Division III boys soccer playoffs continued Saturday, as the Mustangs eliminated No. 1 seed Half Moon Bay, 7-6 on penalty kicks after the match had been tied 3-3 at Garcia-Elder Sports Complex.

Rachel Tomlinson had two doubles and Celeste Mendoza went 2-for-3 to lead Gilroy High’s softball team to a 7-3 home win over Monterey on Tuesday.

GILROY—Christopher’s Anthony Sammut had always played quarterback since taking up football in fifth grade. When coach Tim Pierleoni reassigned him as a wide receiver his junior year, it was difficult to accept.

With neither team able to seal a win in regulation, Gilroy and North Salinas headed to overtime. Four minutes into OT, Gilroy rookie Cami Rogers found the back of the net to lift Gilroy to a 1-0 win over the Vikings.
