SOCCER: GHS girls fall 2-1 to Palo Alto
The Gilroy High girls varsity soccer team took the pitch Monday afternoon for a nonleague match against Palo Alto that was originally scheduled for Jan. 3. The Vikings pocketed the game-winner in the in the 77th minute to down the Mustangs, 2-1.
WRESTLING: GHS takes first at Overfelt Classic
After losing his second match of Day 1 at last weekend's Mid Cals Invitational, Gilroy High freshman 106-pounder Jesse Vasquez won eight straight encounters - the eighth gave him a third-place showing. Vasquez, currently ranked No. 3 in the Central Coast Section, according to ccsrank.com, backed up that performance, increased his unbeaten streak to 13 with a 5-0 mark and took home one of five individual titles for the Mustangs at the 48th annual Overfelt Classic on Saturday in San Jose.
