FOOTBALL: Christopher’s postseason run cut short in semifinals, 42-23

Christopher High's 2011 football season will be classified as nothing less than historic. Taking most by surprise, and catching the rest off guard – themselves excluded – the third-year program, equipped with its first senior class, stingy defense and balanced offense, earned a share of the Monterey Bay League title and its first playoff win last week.

Three years after the program's inception, two weeks after earning a share of its first league title and two days after defeating crosstown rival Gilroy High in the second annual Severance Bowl, the Christopher High football team notched the No.1-seed into the Division III bracket of the Central Coast Section playoffs.

FIELD HOCKEY: Mustangs advance to semifinals with 3-1 win

Seeded No. 2 in the the Central Coast Section playoffs,  the Gilroy High field hockey team, moved past No. 10 Live Oak 3-1 in the quarterfinals on Saturday at Del Mar High School in San Jose.

CROSS COUNTRY: GHS, CHS wrap up season at section championships

With the chance to qualify for the state meet on the line, the Central Coast Section's top cross country runners converged on the visually inspiring yet physically challenging 2.95-mile Crystal Springs course in Belmont on Saturday.
