GILROY — It may have been Senior Night at Gilroy High, but it was a freshman that shined.

Christopher’s No. 2 single player Geoffrey He gave his Everett Alvarez opponent all he could handle Thursday, but in straight sets, came up short.

Gilroy's Nic Aguilar took second at the CIF State Wrestling finals in the 106-pound weight class Saturday, representing one of four Mustang placers.

Felicia Lee-Cardenas led the Rams with 10 points and five rebounds, but it wasn't enough to lift her team past De Anza. 

Gilroy got a taste of postseason success a year ago and has been training this past Spring and through the summer thus far to not only get more of that success, but to advance even further.

The Gilroy High wrestling program is the gold standard in the Central Coast Section, having won 14 consecutive championships. The Mustangs are virtually unbeatable in section, with quality wrestlers in just about every weight class. Such is the dominance of Gilroy that it could beat a solid San Benito squad 54-12 on Dec. 14 in the Monterey Bay League Gabilan Division opener for both teams.
