Christopher volleyball dropped its home finale, falling 3-0 to Monte Vista Christian. The Cougars fell 25-17, 25-13, 25-26.

The Christopher girls volleyball team got its season off to a strong start, sweeping Sobrato 3-0 Thursday at home. The Cougars downed the Bulldogs 25-17, 25-23, 25-20.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Columbia pulls away in second half, defeats Gavilan, 71-57

Jordan Ramirez and Andrew Belonia each posted season-high point totals, but a 13-2 burst by Columbia College aided the visitors in separating themselves down the stretch of a 71-57 defeat of Gavilan College on Wednesday in Gilroy.

WRESTLING: Nebesnick, Garcia set for CIF Girls State Championships

Two weeks have passed since Gilroy High wrestlers Megan Nebesnick and Jennifer Garcia last hit the mat at the Central Coast Section Championships. Two weeks of training and preparation in the books. And now, Nebesnick, the section champ at 189 pounds, and Garcia, the bronze medalist at 126 pounds, will put their skills to the test at the second annual CIF State Girls Wrestling Invitational Championships on Friday and Saturday at Lemoore High School.

The Christopher High boys basketball team took on Monte Vista Christian for the second time in five days Monday night in the first round of the Monterey Bay League postseason tournament.

SOFTBALL: Gavilan bests Mission, 8-0

Having lost five of its last seven outings, the Gavilan College softball team earned the pick-me-up it needed, sending off visiting Mission College 8-0 in six innings Tuesday in Gilroy.
