P.A. Walsh Elementary School in Morgan Hill was locked down for approximately 20 minutes at the end of the school day as police recovered a stolen vehicle and arrested six teenagers – boys and girls – for auto theft.
Wednesday afternoon, a Morgan Hill police officer saw a car on West Main Avenue near the school and noticed there were four people in the back seat, according to Morgan Hill police Special Operations Sgt. Jerry Neumayer. He was going to warn them about wearing seatbelts, but when he checked the license plate number, it showed up as a stolen vehicle.
Other officers responded and West Main Avenue was shut down between Crest Avenue and Peak Avenue. Not knowing if the occupants were members of gangs or had weapons, police shut down the school about five minutes before dismissal time and parents had to wait to pick up their children.
No one was injured in the incident.
