Each month, the principals of Gilroy and Christopher high schools choose a total of four students (two from GHS and two from CHS) to spotlight. GHS senior Samantha Una’Dia is this week’s Student of the Week.

What inspires you? I’m inspired by my family. Their hard work and encouragement help me strive for success. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

What is your favorite subject in school, and why? My favorite subject would have to be drawing and painting because it is the class where I can be the most creative. I can express my feelings and be stress free.

If you had the power to change one thing in the world, what would it be? I would change people’s greediness and selfishness into kindness and love.

If you could go anywhere, where would you go? I would go to the Philippines to visit my family. I have relatives there that I have never met before. It would be nice to be able to see them and spend time together.

Name one big challenge in your life right now: Dealing with stress due to large amounts of homework and track workouts.

What is your dream job? My dream job would be to become a professional ballet dancer. I danced for 12 years, doing tap, ballet, hip hop, and jazz. However, my favorite is ballet.

If you were stuck on a deserted island, what three things could you not live without? I could not live without my phone, my music, or my nice clean shower.

Favorite book: “The Search” by Suzanne Woods Fisher

What are your plans post high school? I plan on working out 5 to 6 days a week over the summer to stay in shape and prepare myself for the track season at Fresno State. I cannot wait to go! I plan on majoring in veterinary science there.

Something that makes you smile: My favorite candy… junior mints!
