A Cupertino quarry worker who allegedly killed three people and wounded seven others in a shooting rampage at his workplace, was apprehended Thursday morning, a sheriff’s official said.

Sgt. Jose Cardoza of the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department said Shareef Allman, 47, of San Jose, was apprehended at a home in Sunnyvale.

He could not confirm earlier reports that Allman had been shot. Some media outlets had reported that he had been killed.

Allman was the subject of a two-day manhunt after Wednesday’s early morning shooting at the Lehigh Permanente rock quarry.

He had attended a regularly scheduled 4:15 a.m. safety meeting at the Lehigh Permanente plant when he allegedly opened fire with a rifle and handgun. Two co-workers died at the scene. Another died later at a local hospital. Seven were wounded.

The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department named the deceased in a press release sent this morning: Manuel Guadalupe Pinon, 48, of Newman; John Robert Vallejos, 51, of San Jose; Mark Munoz, 59, of San Jose. The San Francisco Chronicle has reported Jesse Vallejos, 52 of Gilroy, brother of John Vallejos and also an employee of Lehigh Permanente, was wounded during the shooting rampage.

During a phone call this morning, Lt. Rick Sung said that the Sheriff’s Department would not release the names of those wounded in the shooting.

Later, Allman allegedly shot and wounded a Hewlett-Packard contract employee in the company’s parking lot, in an attempt to take her car.

The shooting set off a massive manhunt involving peace officers, police dogs and helicopters with officers going door to door in neighborhoods in Cupertino and neighboring Sunnyvale.

Anyone who comes into contact with the suspect is urged to call 911. Those with information regarding this case are encouraged to call 408-808-4500 during business hours and 408-808-4410 during non-business hours.
