playoffs Monday at Las Animas Park.
Gilroy – Team Ninja became the first club to earn a championship in the Gilroy Community Services Department’s winter program by defeating Don’s Vending 15-4 in the finals of the Women’s Winter League playoffs Monday at Las Animas Park.

Team Ninja, 7-1 for the regular season, began the Playoff Night action with a 20-0 nod over M&M’s. Michelle Barry hit a home run, double and two singles for the winners, Antoinette Bowe a double and two singles. Maureen Duggan singled for the third-place M&M’s.

Don’s Vending, also 7-1 for the regular season, powered by Goldsmith’s Seeds 14-8 in the second semi-final.

Don’s erased a 4-0 deficit by striking for 10 runs in the bottom of the second inning. Liz Talavera homered and Ermalinda Garcia stroked two singles in the Vendor rally.

Talavera added a second homer and Susan Shapiro went 3-for-4 for the winners. Gina Velasquez went 3-for-3 for the Seeds.

Cherise Martinez singled and scored on a Jolene Carrasco single in the top of the first for Don’s Vending in the finals. Team Ninja responded with two markers in the first on a Bowe sacrifice fly and Missy Howe RBI-double.

Sisters Michelle Barry and Missy Howe poked doubles in a five-run Team Ninja third stanza. Howe finished with three doubles, while Nikki Thompson and Barry each mustered three hits and scored three Ninja runs. Alicia Hernandez singled and doubled for Don’s Vending.

Men’s CCC

Hollister Motor Sports-Gilroy Steel defeated Platinum Roofing Slammers 7-5 in Men’s Winter CCC League play Monday at Christmas Hill Park.

Matt Plesek drilled two doubles and a triple, scoring three runs for Steel. Matt Andrade added a single and triple. Joe Duran went 4-for-4 for the Slammers.

The win lifted Hollister Motor Sports-Gilroy Steel into fourth place in the CCC race, earning a spot against regular-season champion Louie & the Outlaws tonight at Christmas Hill at 6:30. The Slammers dipped to third place and play Neighborhood Pizza at 7:40 tonight.

Men’s DD

The Assassins topped the SVCC Thumpers 12-4 in Men’s Winter DD play Monday. The Assassins qualified in fourth place for the playoffs, opening Playoff Night at 6:30pm against Chris Costello Electric Friday at Christmas Hill. Whiplash and Claddagh Brew Crew play the 7:40pm contest.

Ivan Acevedo and Scott Mead each went 3-for-4 and Joe Benevidez hit two doubles for the Assassins. Mario Flores and Jim Hansen each scored two Thumper runs.

Deadman Inc. defeated the VFW Vets 806 as Clint Ferguson, Jesus Perez and Mark Cisneros each singles and doubled for the winners. Danny Melendez hit two Vets homers.

Deadman Inc. finished third in the regular season and will face the Titans at 7:40pm at Las Animas Park tonight in the playoffs. The Loco Boys and AAA-Cali Boys play the 6:30pm game.
