Lady Mustang golf team bests Notre Dame at Corral de Tierra

SALINAS – The Gilroy High girls golf team tee’d it up at the beautiful Corral de Tierra CC in Salinas for a league match-up against host Notre Dame and came out with a team victory as well as an individual medalist.

The Lady Mustangs’ 207 team tally topped Notre Dame (212) by five strokes as sophomore standout Kristen Campos led the way with a round of 45 over nine holes to earn a medal.

“We struggled a little bit on the newly sanded greens. We had a lot more putts than usual,” head coach Eric Kuwada said. “This also affected the short game – chips didn’t roll as easy and it made it hard to judge and control distance on the greens.”

Rounding out the Lady Mustang line-up were Andrea Hugo with a 51; Carissa Filice with a 53; Amy Kishimura with a 58; Heather Peterson with a 62; and Rowena Tabilas with a 67.

Gilroy also received a forfeit victory over Monterey in Thursday’s scheduled match.
