According to YALSA, Tune In @ Your Library encourages teens to take advantage of the library’s music and media resources, such as music CDs, DVDs, audiobooks and Internet access to online media.

Teens are using technology on a daily basis more now than ever. According to a recent study by Harris Interactive, in 2005, 86 percent of youth aged 8-18 have a computer in their home, and 74 percent have Internet access in their home. On average, 8- to 18-year-olds spend six hours and 21 minutes per day using media (including TV, video/DVDs/movies, video games, audio media, computers and print media). Furthermore, according to the Pew Internet and American Life Project, 71 percent of teens report that the Internet is their primary source for completing school projects.

As part of Teen Tech Week the library has two programs incorporating the music theme. The first is an ongoing contest called “Name That Album.” In the teen area of the library, there will be a display of album covers, missing the titles and artists. Teens fill out an entry form matching the album cover to the artist. All entries with eight or more correct will be entered into a drawing for a free iPod Shuffle. The contest will run from March 2 until 8. Also, on March 4 the library will be having a Teen Karaoke Contest from 7-8 p.m.
