Dear Editor:
The 2003 Garlic City Fun Run Car Show held July 12 was a wonderful success. The Gilroy Downtown Association and South Valley Street Rods Car Club wish to express our most sincere thanks to the following businesses, groups and individuals instrumental to its success:
Cresco Rentals and driver Will Smith, Cooper Tires, Gilroy Garlic Festival, Marx Towing, Christopher Ranch, Gilroy Youth Commission, Laurel Pavese, Gilroy Police Department, Gilroy Youth Center, City of Gilroy, Golden Bay Construction Co., South Valley Disposal, VFW Color Guards, Mr. Garlic – Gerry Foisy, Gilroy Garlic Festival Queen Melissa Noto and her court, Mayor Tom Springer, Joe Duarte, all downtown merchants, Gilroy Visitor’s Bureau and the friends and family who again came out to help us put on the show.
And to the hundreds of car owners who were truly the ones to make the event for us, we couldn’t have done it without you. Your beautiful cars were the show! It was awesome to have each one of you participate.
We strive for a perfect weather day (though it was hot), along with no glitches in producing a street show (there were a few). Once we got the cars parked, the show began.
The measure of success was seen in the number of folks out on a beautiful summer afternoon and evening to enjoy a get-together out in the community. Thank you all for coming to the party.
Lynn Ashford, on behalf of the Gilroy Downtown Association
