Andrew Foster had 21 points, Wyatt Rocheleau 20 and Takoda Bowers 16, as the Christopher High boys varsity basketball team trumped visiting Pajaro Valley with its highest scoring out put of the season in a 85-53 victory Thursday night.
“It was a good, solid win for us,” CHS head coach Kaden Bahner said. “We did a nice job moving the ball, playing as a team, all the things that we are trying to help these guys understand. We did a good job of executing tonight.”
Two night after posting a team-high 20 points, Dillon Babb contributed in a different way by dishing out 12 assists to go along with six points. Dillon Day and Evan Shapiro each deposited eight points as nine different Cougars scored at least a bucket in the win – the first for CHS in Monterey Bay League action this season.
The Cougars (5-10 overall, 1-2 MBL) will be at North Monterey County on Monday night at 7 p.m. That contest is the first of three for CHS next week. They have a tough back-to-back on Thursday and Friday versus Monterey (12-4) and Monte Vista Christian (7-4), respectively. Thursday’s game will be at home.
• The matchup occurred two night later than expected, but the Christopher High girls varsity basketball team dispatched Pajaro Valley 39-11 on Thursday night in Gilroy.
A scheduling mishap pushed the Monterey Bay League contest from Tuesday to Thursday.
The Cougars (10-4 overall, 3-0 MBL) held the Grizzlies to two first-half points to lead by 21 at the halfway point. CHS defense, led by 12 steals by Hanna Tabron, held Pajaro Valley scoreless in the third quarter to take a commanding 36-2 advantage into the fourth.
Tabron and Merrett Brown each had nine points.
The Cougars host Monterey on Tuesday. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
• The junior varsity Cougars defeated the Grizzlies 51-11.
• The Christopher High girls varsity soccer team picked up its third straight victory to open Monterey Bay League play, sending off visiting Monterey 4-0 on Thursday in Gilroy.
Jamie Lanz, Jasmine Contreras, Cailin McCarry and Annie Lopez all scored for the Cougars, who have netted three or more goals in each of its MBL victories thus far. Contreras has four goals in her last three outings.
“Everyone is excited and we are playing well,” CHS head coach Janae Pimentel said.
The Cougars (6-4 overall, 3-0 MBL) join North Monterey County as the only two teams still without a loss in league. That will change Tuesday when the Condors are in town.
“That will be a tough game,” Pimentel said.
Game time Tuesday is slated for 3:30 p.m. at CHS.
