Paying tribute: The public is invited to a 9/11 Memorial Commemoration at 8 a.m. Saturday at the flag pole area in front of the Police Administration Building on the corner of Seventh and Hanna streets. Members of the police and fire departments will be in uniform.

For a good cause: Want to win a trip to Kauai? Or better yet, how about helping a cancer patient take a road trip of a lifetime? Two local sisters will throw a fundraiser for Sherrie Adams, who is battling endometrial cancer. In a “Thelma & Louise” adventure for the history books, sisters Susan Hamilton of Gilroy, Gwen Reid of Morgan Hill and Sherrie Adams of St. Peters, Mo., plan to pack up and ship out next week for a 10-day road trip from Gilroy to Missouri. The fundraiser will be held at 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at 1420 Longmeadow Drive. Door prizes, including the grand prize Kauai trip, will be announced every 15 minutes. Raffle tickets are $1.

Treasure hunters: Gilroy will hold its citywide garage sales Saturday and Sunday. Junk or treasure? You decide as you go from house to house to barter a deal. A listing of participating addresses will be available at the Gilroy and Morgan Hill city halls and on www.secondchanceweek.com.

A little bit of Bluegrass: The fifth annual Jake’s Brown Barn Bluegrass Festival features some of the area’s top bluegrass music at the San Martin-Ludwig Ranch Park, 13865 Monterey Road, San Martin. Open mic starts at 7 p.m. Friday. Band performances run from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Details: 778-1050, 782-5044 or scbs.org.

Fitting weekend finale: Clos LaChance is throwing its annual Harvest Party from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. There will be live music by the Fast Land Band, gourmet food and wine.Cost: $40. Details: www.clos.com.
